The Transparent, Not-So Transparent Truth // Alana Ako

Throughout the course of Critical Thinking & Writing 1 and 2, we focused on sustainability, factory farming, dishonesty and narratives.  And after reflecting on the essays I’ve written, I noticed a common theme regarding my critique of systems and their failure to lead society in an ethically responsible direction.  With a big name comes a big responsibility.  The influence possessed by institutions should be intertwined with an intrinsic duty to foster knowledgable citizens, to provide and encourage behaviors that will better society in a balance between maximizing social good, environmental interests and profit.

To test the validity of my theses, I conducted research focused on dietary systems, factory farming, corporate tax systems and business-related marketing strategies with high hopes for our society’s morals.
